2023-08-26Some individuals within the university have openly expressed their discomfort with South Indian students. Such sentiments create a hostile environment and perpetuate divisiveness. It is worth considering that if similar sentiments were reciprocated, it would jeopardize opportunities for students and professionals from this region in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore. I find it distressing to observe instances of bias that appear to favor students proficient in Gujarati or Hindi. This partiality has permeated various aspects of university life, leading to a sense of exclusion among South Indian students like myself.
The most glaring issue is the differential treatment that students receive based on their linguistic affiliation. Gujarati and Hindi-speaking students often enjoy priority in academic opportunities, extracurricular activities, and other important matters. This lopsided distribution of benefits not only contradicts the principle of equal opportunity but also fosters feelings of neglect among those who do not share the same linguistic background.
South Indian students frequently encounter assumptions about our dietary habits, cultural practices, and even our personalities. These stereotypes perpetuate misconceptions and contribute to an environment where individuals from different backgrounds are marginalized and misunderstood.Language discrimination is another deeply concerning issue that needs to be addressed urgently. Students conversing in their mother tongues have been subjected to ridicule and mockery. This form of behavior not only generates a hostile atmosphere but also disregards the rich linguistic diversity that our nation proudly embraces.
Equally alarming is the observation that during conflicts or disputes, individuals fluent in Gujarati or Hindi are often given preferential treatment. This bias in conflict resolution undermines the principles of fairness and justice, leaving students from different linguistic backgrounds feeling powerless and disenfranchised.
20-12-2023In addition to the persistent issues I previously mentioned regarding lighting and electronic device usage, a recent incident has further compounded my frustration and dismay. I discovered that an empty spot had become available in my friend's room due to a roommate returning home. Recognizing the opportunity to temporarily alleviate my living conditions, I approached my friend with a request to use the available space. Regrettably, my attempt to seek temporary refuge was met with unexpected hostility from the hostel rector. Despite the vacant spot being a potential solution to the ongoing problems I've been facing, the rector raised objections to my presence. This incident has left me questioning the level of consideration given to students' well-being within the hostel.
